Finished Roundabout OMG

One OMG for December at Elm Street Quilts was to quilt and bind my Roundabout Quilt. It is done and I am now happily using it on my couch for Christmas.

My original post was here. I enjoyed the Roundabout Quilt Along at Happy Quilting Melissa. The QAL kept me going to get this quilt completed. I'll admit that I do have a few quilt tops sitting in a stack. Hopefully, I'll get to them in 2018.

Sparkle Quilt

I finished my Roundabout quilt for the Quilt Along at Happy Quilting Melissa. This is the first Quilt Along that I have been able to join so I'm excited that I was able to finish it for the parade. I had these "Sparkle" Christmas prints and I added a couple extra solids.

The backing is, also, Amanda Murphy Animals.  I used the light green for the binding. I just quilted a grid of wavy lines.  I learned a few new things in this quilt along, such as chain piecing and sewing curves. Plus, it was neat how the diamonds are created when the blocks came together. I like how the diamonds have a different fabric/color on each side.

I am enjoying having this quilt on my couch this year for Christmas.

Merry Christmas!

Looking forward to a finish, just in time for Christmas

My OMG for December is to quilt and bind my Roundabout Quilt for Melissa's Quilt Along. I am thrilled that I have made it this far.

My quilt top is complete so, of course, I need to finish it up! Looking forward to a finished quilt for Christmas.

Crimson and Clover Train Case

Finished my November One Monthly Goal at Elm Street Quilts. My original post was here: November OMG - Crimson and Clover

This pattern is by Sew Sweetness. I used Blue Carolina and pieced it from a charm pack. This is the medium size. This will be nice to use to keep make up items, etc in it, possibly, for a short trip. I will be posting this, also, to Bag It .

Completed Roundabout Quilt Top!

Finished my quilt top for the Roundabout Quilt Along at Happy Quilting Melissa

I hoping to have this quilted and bound for the parade. This was a fun quilt along and I learned some new skills along the way. Once I get it completed, I will have a Christmas quilt to hang on my couch.

Roundabout Quilt Along Blocks Done!

Finished all 12 of my quilt blocks for the Round About Quilt Along at Happy Quilting

This is the first that I have sewn curves on a quilt. The blocks went together nicely with "pin tricks".   I will be having a completed quilt top soon.

Drunkard Path - Roundabout quilt along - Finished!

Finished my Drunkard Path sections! This was a little slow-moving at times, but I got it done. Hopefully, they will look good on my completed quilt top and not like some drunkard sewed them!

Crimson and Clover Bag

For November, I am choosing my One Monthly Goal to be completing a Crimson and Clover Train Case which is this Sew Sweetness bag. It's like killing 2 birds with 1 stone because I would like to have it done to link up to Bag It, also. I have started it and have all fabric interfaced, so I should be able to accomplish this.

I might try to sneak in another bag or 2 before Christmas but who knows how that will go. I've got a number of different quilts in the works and I would like to spend some sewing time on them. Plus, I joined the Roundabout Quilting at Happy Quilting and I definitely want to finish it before Christmas.

Pumpkin Placemats in time for Fall

Finished my placemats and table runner in time for Thanksgiving. Also, in time for my OMG for October at Elm Street Quilts. These OMG's keep me on track (sometimes) with my non-stop projects.

These were actually kind of time consuming. But I like them and will probably just get them out each Fall. I don't want them to get all stained up like my other placemats that I use constantly.

The table runner and placemats are too big for the dining table so I moved the table runner to the coffee table in my family room. It looks much better there.

I quilted them using my walking foot with straight lines. The fabric is flannel. I have had the fabric and pattern in my dresser drawer for about 5 years so it's about time I completed them!

Here's my original post for OMG for October.  Now onto my next project.

Next step in the Roundabout Quilt Along - done!

Finished the next step in the Roundabout Quilt Along at Happy Quilting. These are my Half-Square Triangles with Goosed Corners. It is nice to have little "bonus" triangles on the right that I can use for a pillow or something down the road. I have not ironed those yet but will get to that one evening.

I'm looking forward to having a Christmas quilt this year.
Plus, it is awesome that I won this cute fat quarter bundle on the previous step in the Roundabout Quilt Along.
It was from Four Peaches Fabric. Now I can start planning my next project with these cuties!

Fall Pumpkins

My One Monthly Goal for October is to quilt these pumpkins that I sewed in August. I purchased some variegated thread so I hope it works well for the quilting.

I'm looking forward to using these on my Thanksgiving table.

Looking forward to a Christmas Quilt

Finished these fast flying geese the first day for The Round About Quilt Along at Happy Quilting Melissa!

September Monthly Goal Finished

My goal for September was to quilt this quilt. It is done. Still need to hand sew the binding to the other side, but that will be accomplished in the evenings. I decided against struggling with my machine and outline quilt all of the dashes and boxes.
Instead, I just quilted straight lines across and up and down. It worked out fine and it was done much sooner. That way, I can move onto another goal.

Springtime Quilt

I thought I would add this finished quilt to the Blogger's Quilt Festival this year. I am calling this my Springtime quilt because the colors reminded me of Spring flowers, which I love. I enjoyed sewing it and gave it to my Mom.

My sweet cat, Lucky, thought it was pretty comfy, too.

This is a better close up of the piecing. I pieced the label and used this cute yellow fabric for the backing. It's hard to see, but it had cute birds and flowers on it. I quilted it on my Brother machine, 1/4 inch on either side of the blocks.

I think my Mom likes it and uses it on her couch. Linking this completed quilt up to 2017 Fall Blogger's Quilt Festival

Quilt Along Cuts

I'm going to be participating in the Round About quilt along at Happy Quilting. I decided to make a Christmas quilt since I already had the fat quarters required. I purchased the white background and backing. These are my cut pieces. I will be trying to sew the 3X4 Lap size.

It's not too late to join the quilt along.

Set Machine up to start quilting...

My OMG at Elm Street Quilts for September is to get at least 1/2 of this quilt quilted.

I don't know if I will get it completely quilted in September because, well, life happens.

I need to have the whole thing finished by the end of October so that gives me 2 months to have it fully quilted and bound. That's more manageable for me since I do want to echo quilt around each of those boxes and dashes. I didn't start the quilting yet, but I am envisioning some maneuvering through my sewing machine. I'm getting on it after Labor Day for sure!

Pumpkin Patch Placemats Tops

Finished my OMG for August at Elm Street Quilts OMG. My original post was here: August OMG Goal.  I haven't had a whole lot of time this month, so I am glad that I did get these tops done.

The 3 at the bottom left are for a table runner. There was another border on the pattern, but I don't know if I am sewing it the way that it is.  At first when I sewed these, I didn't know if they even looked like pumpkins, but I guess they do. I actually do need some placemats so, hopefully, I can get these quilted and bound for Thanksgiving!

Pumpkin Patch OMG

I've had this kit for placemats and table runner for years, so I think it's about time to sew them. I won't say that I will have them quilted and bound (although, that would be nice), but since it is still Summer, I am just committing to the tops being done.

A completed Quilt top.

Finished this Dash in the Box quilt top. This was my July OMG and I'm glad to say that I completed it. I enjoyed sewing this quilt top and I think it is kind of unique.

I want to have this quilted and bound in Fall for a Birthday present for my son. He moved into a new house and I thought he could use a new quilt for his couch.

Dash in the Box Quilt Top

Trying to finish this Dash in the Box quilt top for my July OMG goal.

The blocks are completed, but they've sat in a box for a while. I always have too many projects going. I really do need to get the quilt top pieced together. I would like to have the quilt fully completed in the Fall because I plan on giving it to my son for his Birthday in November.

During these Summer months, I don't get a lot of sewing done, so I think piecing the quilt top is a realistic goal for July. I am linking to July OMG at Elm Street Quilts

Baggalista.......Finally Done

It seems like this bag took me forever! I've been working on this since the beginning of May. This is the back of the bag with a flap that lifts up. There is a pocket on each side with a zipper for my phone.

This is the front of the bag. I use paper-pieced blocks from Quiltmaker's 100 Blocks

For the lining, I used fabric called "Scented". It actually does smell like lavender, not real strong. The only time I smelled it real strong was when I was ironing it. I thought it would be nice for a lining of a bag to keep it nice and fresh. This is a nice bag and I will enjoy carrying it, especially since it took me a Coon's age to complete!

I am posting my finished June project to June OMG at Elm Streets Quilt .
This was My original post for my June goal (plus My May goal!). Yeah! Now I can move on to something else.

I, also, completed a bag for Sadie's Dream for a Cure I thought it turned out kind of cute. I mailed this a couple of weeks ago to them.

If you want to complete a bag for this great cause, you can participate by going to their website above. Little kids going through trials need a little bit of kindness in their life.

Let's Try This Again...

I did not complete my OMG for May so I am choosing it again for June. It seems that I did not have a whole lot of time to sew in May. We started going camping so that leaves out a few weekends of sewing through the Spring and Summer.

I have approximately 1/3 of this Baggalista Bag bag completed so hopefully, I will have it done by the end of June.

Blooming Quilters 2017

Hello and Welcome to my blog. My name is Danette and I live in Pennsylvania, south of Pittsburgh. I am fortunate to participate in the 2017 New Quilt Bloggers Blog Hop. I am in The Blooming Quilters Hive. One of the members of our hive created this great button:
Yvonne was our fantastic host.  Yvonne at Quilting JetGirl has encouraged us and offered assistance for a couple of months with our blogs. Also, Leanne at She Can Quilt and Beth at Cooking Up Quilts have new bloggers in their hives.  Please check out everyone's blog. It's a great way to follow new quilting bloggers.

I have been posting to my blog for a couple years, but it seemed that I couldn't quite get the hang of some things. A few others from my hive reviewed my blog and offered some advice. From their suggestions, I was able to make a few improvements and learned some new things.

I have always loved handmade items, so about 12 years ago, I decided to learn to quilt. I purchased Learning to Quilt Book and just kind of taught myself. Sewing and quilting is kind of a stress reliever for me. Following are some of the quilts I have completed:

This is "Checkers" quilt from Fons & Porter, Love of Quilting Magazine. This was one of the first fully-completed quilts that I made. It was completely done on my small Singer sewing machine. I definitely struggled with the quilting on that little sewing machine. About 4 years ago, I bought a more expensive Brother machine and sewed these:

Log Cabin Star Quilt
Frivol I recently completed

Quilt I made for my Mom

I like to use my walking foot for quilting. I just purchased a new book Walk by Jacquie Gering. She gives lots of options for quilt designs using your walking foot. I am going to start working some of her suggestions into my quilting.

I have become kind of a quilt magazine and pattern junky. I have them scattered around my house so that I can glance through them. I generally don't give them away, either. If you are like me, my tip is to buy those "sticky flags". When I look through my magazines, I put a colored flag on the patterns that I like. That way, I can find what I'm looking for faster. I have them color-coded to size of quilt.

Also, I enjoy making bags. I like to include quilt blocks or piecing and/or quilting in my bags. Following are a few of my bags:

Downton Abbey bag

 Teapot pouch

Quilted Bag
I hope you have enjoyed my Blooming Quilters Meet 'N Greet post. Feel free to leave me a message. You can let me know if you are a quilt magazine and pattern addict, too.  You can follow me, too, if you'd like.

In closing, if you are wondering about the name of my blog - Some people call me Nettie and my cat's name is Lucky. Here she is amongst the tulips.

Starting a Baggalista Bag

I have been wanting to sew this Baggalista for a while now. So I am choosing this as my May Monthly goal.

I really need a new bag to carry because mine are getting used and abused. I like how this is a cross body bag. We do a lot of camping in the summer and sometimes we have to run to the Dollar Store or whatever. So it will be nice to be able to just sling over my shoulder. I've had the pattern, plus the fabric, for months so I need to get started.

Dash in the Box blocks

Just a quick post for my One Monthly Goal Completion for April. Finished these blocks.

Eventually, this will be a quilt for my son. Here is my original post. April OMG
Now to choose my May goal. I'm not thinking I will choose to have this quilt top completed, but I probably will work on doing that. I was getting a little tired of working on this, so I need a break from it for now.

Quarter 2 Goals

I actually forgot about the Quarter 1 Goals link up. Oh, well, I think I only finished one from my original list anyway. Following are my Quarter 2 Goals:

1.) #9 Frivol Small Table Quilt
2.) Dash in the Box quilt.
3.) One of these Baskets to use on our Camper.
4.) This quilt still needs the binding added. So that should be easy.
5.) I would like to sew this Baggalista to use when I go camping.
6.) Finish this Frivol. I do have it started.
7.) I would like to sew this apple pouch. Maybe I will get it done.
8.) One or both of these Minis.
